Thirty precious acres of Civil War battlefield lands are destroyed every day. These battlefields are hallowed ground that is part of our national heritage, the scenes of tremendous struggle and loss of American lives. To raise the necessary funds to preserve and protect these historic sites, the Civil War Battlefield Commemorative Coin Act of 1992 authorized the U.S. Mint to issue commemorative coins. In 1995, the Civil War Preservation Commemorative Half Dollar was released on the 130th Anniversary of the end of the Civil War. Only 330,099 Proof Coins were struck at the San Francisco Mint. The obverse features a Civil War drummer boy along with the legends, “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” The reverse shows a battlefield scene along with the inscription: “ENRICHING THE FUTURE BY PRESERVING THE PAST.” Add this very special proof quality commemorative coin to your collection today!
